From March 2018 – March 2019, Project READ aimed to improve pupils’ reading outcomes from EYFS to Year 6 for 43 eligible Derbyshire schools. Project READ provided a balanced approach to support reading and language development through a number of key complementary elements.

With the overall aim of improving reading, the programme was designed to support schools to encourage young readers to:

master the reading skills of word recognition and language comprehension
develop intrinsic motivation and increase in confidence so they see themselves as readers
read widely and frequently both in school and at home.

During the project year ‘what works well’ case studies were contributed by Derbyshire schools. These are available on the Case Studies tab. All schools are welcome to access and utilise the case studies. This website will remain live until July 2020.
