Project READ emphasised the love and development of reading as a priority for the whole school community. The programme provided opportunities for leaders to work together to support children across Derbyshire to become skilled and enthusiastic readers.
A reader:
• has positive attitudes to reading
• demonstrates good reading habits and behaviours
• is developing confident reading skills.
The triangle below explores the attitudes, behaviours and skills of a reader in a little more detail.
Project READ consisted of a programme of support that included:
-What Works Conferences
-School Improvement Reading Programmes (Developing Vocabulary, Effective Phonics, KS2 Comprehension)
-CPD opportunities, including classroom approaches and intervention programmes to support reading comprehension and spoken language
-Transition and Reading Buddy support
-Family engagement resources, including bookmarks
-SLE support
-Hub School visits
